Feathers and Fur was established in 2004. The owner, Rachael Leshnov, has spent her entire life being devoted to the love and care of animals. As a child, Rachael grew up with 3 terriers named Jo-Jo, McGregor, and McDuff as well as a parakeet named Cuddles. As an adult, she has raised 3 loving cats named Sammy, Bailey, Amaretto, a Sheppard-Chow named Sam, and 3 lovebirds named Leroy, Andrea, and Beavis. Since 1986, Rachael worked in retail sales and customer service, achieving the position of District Manager in 1998 at the age of 27. This experience sharpened her organization, communication, time management, and customer care skills. However, since childhood, Rachael's underlying passion was for the care and protection of animals. Finding dozens of abandoned and/or stray animals and placing them in loving homes over the years, encouraged her to appreciate and support respected organizations such as PETA, the Humane Society of the United States , Alley Cat Allies, SPCA of Los Angeles, International Animal Rescue, Tiger Haven, Northeast Animal Shelter, In Defense of Animals, and Farm Sanctuary. Due to a career that required extensive travel, Rachael's loving and supportive parents became her pets' caregivers almost every month. The growing need for caring individuals who could be trusted to enter a home and provide love and care for pets inspired Rachael to retire from retail management and establish a predominant business in the field of professional pet care and house-sitting services.
